mayHats Off to the Cast and Crew of Things My Mother Taught Me

RRTC’s first production of our 10th anniversary season was a resounding success. Thanks to the committed cast, crew and management team of Things My Mother Taught Me. You proved that teamwork is alive and well at Rural Root—and you rewarded audiences with a hilarious comedy in the process. Congratulations!

Friday Night Murder in Constance Bay

Murder was in the air on Friday, May 30 as the Rural Root Theatre Company joined forces with the Constance and Buckham’s Bay Community Association and the Lakeside Players for “Prime Suspect,” a murder mystery dinner in support of Project Sandhills. The cast and production team had a blast. Despite the murderous atmosphere, we hear that diners had just as much fun!

Improve Your Moves: Movement Workshop with Attila Clemann

Through improvisation, mime, movement analysis and the poetic language of Jacques Lecoq, students will learn to ‘colour’ characters and bring to the stage fun, interesting and credible personalities. This three hour workshop will explore three tools for the physical performer:

• mime and how the performer can manipulate the theatrical space

• “le jeu” and the space where the audience’s imagination comes alive

• the mask and the powerful actor’s body on stage

Workshop participants should be prepared to rediscover their bodies, be silly, have fun and laugh while learning a dynamic way to colour their characters. Wear workout gear!

DATE: Sunday June 15th, 2014 – CBBCA main hall (upstairs)

TIME: 10 am – 1 pm

COST: $20 per person

REGISTER: Email Judy at jpuritt@hotmail.com before June 2nd!

Fall 2014 Production: Ladies of Harmony

Now that our fall play, Ladies of Harmony, is chosen, we’re on the hunt for a Director and Stage Manager. This is sure to be another hilarious hit with our audiences, as a group of church-going women get personal and gossip. If you want to take a leadership role on this great play, please send a brief proposal to the Board at bod@ruralroot.org. The deadline for proposals is June 6. Ladies of Harmony will run October 17-18 and October 22-25.

West Carleton Secondary School Scholarship

We’re looking forward to giving out the first Rural Root scholarship at the WCSS commencement on June 27. As you may recall, the RRTC Board approved an annual $500 scholarship for a period of five years to a promising and involved theatre student. Watch this space for the 2014 winner’s name.

Drama Award – West Carleton School of the Performing Arts

We recently sponsored the $50 WCSOPA drama award at their year end showcase. It was an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about RRTC with an audience that loves performing arts in our community.

Celebrating our 10th anniversary

Mark your calendars! RRTC is planning our 10th anniversary party for November 1st, shortly after Ladies of Harmony closes. The Halloween-themed event will bring together current and past members, along with sponsors, to mark this special milestone. We will be looking for your support to bring as many past and present members to this special event as you can. If you are interested in joining the planning committee for the party, email us at bod@ruralroot.org.

Welcome to our New Members

We love it when we grow! RRTC would like to welcome our new members, Andy Roberts, Diana Last, Kathy Tassé, Valerie Maier and Greg Geisler.
