The Play

Deep in the Amazon rainforest a brilliant scientist hires a local big game hunter to search for the love of her life who has run away in a jealous rage. When another man appears from her past, suddenly nothing is as it seems.

Written by Rural Root’s own Peter Veale, who also appeared on stage with Rural Root and Kanata Theatre, this one act comedy is Rural Root’s entry into the EODL One-Act Play Festival.

The Eastern Ontario Drama League (EODL) holds an annual festival of one-act plays, hosted by one of the member theatre companies. This year, the festival is in Perth, hosted by Studio Theatre Productions. Nine theatre companies will be competing on November 8, 9 and 10.

Featuring Scott McMann, Comic

For near two decades, Scott has been cracking wise and cracking up audiences at cream-of-the-crop comedy clubs across Canada. He has thrown knockout punch lines at Yuk Yuk’s, kibitzed and kidded at Comedyworks and the Comedy Nest, and split sides at Absolute Comedy. He has performed in front of corporate audiences from groups as diverse as The Virgin Group, The Government of Canada, the Advertising and Design Club of Canada and the General Motors. And, of course, he’s paid his dues with more one-night stand(up)s and bar gigs than we want to mention here (his wife could be reading). Maybe you caught Scott on CBC Radio’s The Best of — So, you think your funny, a nationally broadcast summer show, and if you had a keen eye, you saw him serve up time on Television in a Keith’s Ale ad. Scott’s material ranges from observational humour that holds a warped mirror up to the audience’s every day life, to artfully crafted anecdotes about his family, and well beyond.

Scott’s comedy finds a way to mix social and family observations with dark undertones for the everyday person!

Tracy L. Rideout, Producer

Comedy Development, CBC Radio

Scott is one of our “go-to” guys at Absolute Comedy. He can deliver the laughs no matter what role he does on the show. Great emcee work, feature act or headlining skills set Scott apart from the usual comic. Scott is also versatile enough to entertain at both clean and nasty shows and for audiences of any age.
